You may or may not have noticed, but I am a bit of a fan of Kirstie Allsopp, and especially her latest TV offering, Fill your House for Free…
Well, you can imagine my excitement when I had an e-mail inviting me to the 1st day of Kirstie’s Handmade Fair in September!
The Handmade Fair is a 3 day event taking place at Hampton Court Palace from the 19th-21st September this year.
The tagline for the event, is “Everyone Has A Craft They Can Do”, which I like a lot 🙂
As well as providing an event for Britain’s fabulous crafters to showcase their talents and products, the Handmade Fair is also putting learning and making at the heart of the show. Everyone who visits will be able to take part in one of the craft workshops, and listen to some of the Greats of the crafting world (Cath Kidston, Annie Sloan, and Kaffe Fassett to name a few!) in the Super Theatre.
As part of the show, Kirstie has decided to go for a Guinness World Record at the event for the highest number of pompoms laid end to end. Kirstie makes a mean pompom but she can’t possibly do them all herself, so she is calling on the Great British public to help her achieve #worldpomination.
You can join in with this, even if you aren’t going to the Handmade Fair-you just need to make 3 pompoms, and tie your name to them, and then drop them off at your nearest Hobbycraft store. Keep your eyes peeled as well, for pompom workshops at Hobbycraft stores over the Summer! As a bonus, the world-record attempt will be raising funds for the charity Sense.
You can also get involved by nominating for the #Handmade100-a list of the 100 most influential crafters on Twitter!
You just need to tweet “I nominate @(whoever your have crafter is on Twitter), as my favourite crafter for the #Handmade100 list of 100 influential crafters on Twitter http://www.thehandmadefair.com/handmade100” to vote!
Given that you get the workshops and talks included in the cost, I think that the tickets are really reasonable at £29 each.
If you want to book, head on over to the website.
I’ll leave you with a couple of Kirstie facts that got sent out with the Press Release:
“Kirstie is allergic to unplumped cushions & tinsel free trees.”
So now you know.
PS. For the sake of transparency-I have been very kindly given a ticket to The Handmade Fair, but it was with no expectation that I blog about it. I just think it looks pretty fab, and that you might all want to know about it!
