Happy Stuff!

A new baby!

February 20, 2015

Not ours, I hasten to add!
Buy my brother and his wife have had a beautiful baby boy, after a very tough couple of years, and he has already bought so much joy and happiness πŸ™‚

The Smalls are very excited at their new very important roles of big cousins, and are looking forwards to teaching the baby all kinds of essential boy skills (Lego, football, ‘playing’….)
I took them on a mini road trip to meet their new cousin-SmallSmall couldn’t quite get his head around the fact that the new baby might not want to play with his fire engine just yet, but I think they enjoyed meeting him, and it was super sweet seeing them being so gentle and loving, and so genuinely excited to meet him!

Speaking to my brother and his wife on the phone during their first week as new parents has bought back all those forgotten memories of how totally overwhelmed I felt when we had BigSmall. Overwhelmed with love and sheer amazement at how wonderful he was, but also overwhelmed by having no-clue what we were supposed to be doing! And no matter how many books I read, BigSmall clearly hadn’t read them too, and refused to do what the books said he should!
Getting anything done with a new baby around is very hard, especially when it’s your first. So we turned up with soup and scones for lunch, some meals to go in the freezer, and a large tin of flapjack…!

Flapjack

I also crocheted him a little pram blanket. It’s not the most practical of presents, as it’s handwash only (never very useful when babies, or in fact small children, are involved), but I really enjoyed making it, and am soooo pleased to have actually completed a crochet project, instead of giving up halfway through or being distracted by something that looks more interesting!

For those of you who are interested, I’ll blog the details and the vague pattern for the blanket in the next day or two! And if anyone would like the recipe for the best flapjack ever, I can post that too!

Have a fab Friday everyone πŸ™‚

Congrats to your brother and his wife. I remember getting home with eldest daughter, looking at her and thinking ‘how on earth am I ever going to manage to keep her alive?’ But twenty four years later I seem to have managed somehow. And yes, flapjack recipe please.

It’s so daunting isn’t it? But as I told my brother, babies are far more robust than they look…!
