Change Making in 2017

January 4, 2017

Happy New Year!
Phew, it’s been a while. Apologies for the complete lack of posts during December. My blogging ‘mojo’ was very intermittent during the last half of 2016, and has probably in all honesty been a very accurate reflection of my general mood and mental health. Taking some time out in the run up to Christmas ended up being a really constructive thing to do – it was so lovely to just stop and spend time with hubby and the boys, and not be constantly pushing myself to be publishing posts, and to be busy for busy’s sake.

The kids went back to school today, so some form of ‘normality’ has resumed and Christmas suddenly seems a long time ago. In fact, even New Years Day feels like weeks ago, and I feel somewhat tardy in not getting a New Year post out until now.
This time of year is always an interesting one, so full of good intentions and grand ambitions. Despite not being ‘here’ on the blog throughout December, I failed to completely switch off and the ideas factory in my head refused to take any time off, leaving me mulling over thoughts for the year ahead around what I want to achieve both personally, and here in my own little corner of the inter web.

Seven big things we can ALL do today to fight climate change, or how to be a climate activist without leaving home

November 18, 2016

Hubby and I watched Before the Flood the other weekend.
It’s a film made by Leonardo DiCaprio about climate change, that aims to bring the truth about climate change to a wider audience.
I was in two minds about watching it, and I saw hubby’s face fall when I suggested it. I knew what he was thinking, and I was worried about it too – he was afraid that I was going to watch it and then get plunged into a very bleak place when confronted with the reality of the challenges we are facing.
But actually, it was ok.
I’m not going to lie, it was scary stuff, but it did also focus on some of the things that we can all do in the fight against climate change, that we don’t have to sit back and feel powerless, and wait for governments and businesses to do the right thing.
As regular readers will know, I’m a big fan of the little changes we can all make everyday, that add to make a big difference, but actually there are some things that we can all do, today, that might take a bit of effort, but that could very quickly have a massive impact.
I’m planning to go into much more depth on each of these (and more!) in the New Year, but for now, here’s some ideas that will hopefully get you thinking, and more importantly, taking action!

This is our call to action

November 9, 2016

I’m sure I’m not alone in waking up this morning with a sense of deja vu.
I went to bed last night knowing that the world would have changed come the morning. That America would have it’s first ever woman President, or it would have Trump.
And I never really believed that the people of America would choose Trump. In the same way I never really believed that the people of the UK would choose Brexit.
I felt the same disbelief this morning as I did on that morning back in the Summer, when I realised that my little bubble that I exist in on social media and in real life, was just that. A bubble.
And that the people I interact with everyday, who talk about hope and tolerance, and peace and equality, are in fact in the minority. That we have somehow reached a point where anyone preaching the exact opposite of these values, can be elected into one of the most powerful positions in the world.
