General ramblings

Post Christmas greetings to you all!
Hope you all had a lovely time, ate too much and Santa was kind to you. And that you are making sure you use up all your leftovers 🙂

I thought I would share with you one of my less succesful makes from this Christmas, to give you a giggle….

I decided to be clever and try and make hubby a homemade version of some face salt scrub he got from Lush last year.
So I duly googled, and found a recipe that sounded good, and that I had all the ingredients for, whipped some up and sat back feeling smug.

This is the recipe, if you want to have a go BUT do read to the end of the post for the disclaimer…!

This is what you need:

  • 40ml liquid castille soap
  • 10ml almond oil
  • 80ml sunflower oil
  • 10 drops essential oil of your choice
  • 250g salt-I used a combination of coarse sea salt, table salt, and epsom salts, but whatever you have is good

This is what you do:

  • Mix it all together

It looked ok, but didn’t smell very essential oil-y, but was v.v.easy, and I was really pleased with it.
Until I tried it….

It is uber-oily (why this is surprising given that oil is one of the main ingredients, I am not sure…).
It would probably be quite nice used as a body scrub, but leaves one’s face resembling an oil slick-DOH!!

Hey ho, back to the drawing board….

You learn from your mistakes … but we ALL learn from other peoples mistakes when they own up & blog about them … thankyou for being so honest. Its one of your most endearing qualities that you own up & say it like it is instead of paiting a rosy picture :o)

I’m trying to use it up as body scrub, and then will try again with a revised recipe!
